First closing for Ambienta’s sustainable debt fund at €250 million
Milan/London/Paris/Munich — Ambienta SGR SpA (“Ambienta”), one of the largest and leading asset managers in Europe focusing on environmental sustainability, announces the first closing of the “Ambienta Sustainable Credit Opportunities” fund (Ambienta Credit) with already around half of the target volume of EUR 500 million.
Ambienta Credit is a further development of the corporate strategy and builds on Ambienta’s fundamental concept of sustainability. This is based on the conviction that environmental sustainability is the biggest macro trend of all time and offers one of the greatest investment opportunities of this century. More importantly, with the establishment of Ambienta Credit, Ambienta is adding a third investment strategy to its platform that focuses exclusively on environmental champions. Like Ambienta’s private equity and public equity products, the credit products also fall under Article 9 of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR).
Ambienta Credit will accompany European medium-sized companies as a partner and support their development. The focus is exclusively on environmental champions whose products or services contribute to improving resource efficiency or reducing environmental pollution and which are characterized by stable end markets and strong defensive business models. In addition to the Credit team led by Ran Landmann (Partner and Chief Investment Officer) and Nishan Srinivasan (Partner and Head of Origination), Ambienta Credit is supported by the broader platform and, in particular, the expertise of the Sustainability and Strategy team — a team of engineers who examine the impact of environmental issues on science and business operations across industries and value chains.
The implementation of the strategy is based on the award-winning methods developed by the company itself, which account for the success of Ambienta Private Equity: the “Environmental Impact Analysis” (EIA), which measures the positive environmental balance of a target company, and the “ESG in Action” program, which evaluates and improves the ESG profile of the portfolio companies.
Ran Landmann, Partner and Chief Investment Officer, and Nishan Srinivasan, Partner and Head of Origination, said: “Sustainability is a long-term trend that will become even more important in the future. We are pleased to work with leading investors who, like us, have recognized that investing in environmental sustainability creates value. Ambienta Credit complements our existing platform and offers the opportunity to work with even more sustainability champions who want to finance their growth and are looking for credit solutions. We are particularly pleased that we were able to close our first transaction with the financing of a leading water company in December 2023.”
Laurent Donin de Rosière, Partner and Head of Investor Relations and Strategic Partnerships, emphasized: “We continue to have a very strong base of limited partners and are grateful for the strong support and trust of Ambienta’s existing and new investors. In the current market environment, the importance of private loans is undisputed. Coupled with the increasing role that investors are placing on identifying authentic, sustainable investment solutions, Ambienta Credit is a unique offering and an exceptionally well-positioned product that opens up both partnerships for corporates and investment opportunities for LPs.”
